It is a privilege to have the opportunity to show the work of Matthew Draper.
When you view Matthew’s atmospheric landscapes you will understand why his creations have enchanted art lovers and delighted art critics for many years. His impressive C.V. pays testament to the quality of his work and can boast of a recent invitation to exhibit at the prestigious Scottish Gallery during 2016. Matthew is a member of the Federation of British Artists as well as being an elected member of The Pastel Society U.K. He has won a number of coveted awards, the most recent of these being the 2016 Charles Pears Award.
In a commentary on his work Matthew wrote the following:
“I identify myself principally as a draughtsman; drawing being the most unencumbered and immediate form of image-making. My work is made with an intense and energetic immediacy, working instinctively rather than methodically, keeping me physically and emotionally involved in the process. I crush soft pastel in my hands rubbing the dust into the paper in wide sweeps of colour gradually manipulating the material to build up a thick layered surface using the ball of my thumb, the heal of my hand and my forearms.”
